Skin Talks: What Are The Most Common Skin Problem People Face?

There are hundreds of skin conditions that can affect us. However, some are more common and can trigger almost everyone in the world.

If you want to take care of your skin more, you don’t only have to learn tips on how to care for it. You also have to know what conditions you can get and how to treat them properly. After all, we’d rather do DIY treatments instead of going to the doctor.

Although that could help most of the time, it’s still best to work with a reliable skin doctor in your area. This way, you are correctly diagnosed and given the proper treatment to ensure it doesn’t leave lasting effects on your skin.

That said, here are the most common skin conditions that affect people.

Acne Vulgaris (Acne)

Acne vulgaris or acne is the most common skin condition. Almost everyone in the world has experienced it at least once in their life.

Acne commonly strikes teenagers and young adults. This is the time when our body’s hormones are high and in turn, produce more sebum (oil) that clogs the hair follicles. Once the pores are clogged with oil and dead skin cells, it turns into a skin blemish.

There are different types of acne and can be mild to severe. It would help if you visited your dermatologist for the proper treatment based on your case.

However, you will typically be given isotretinoin, topical creams, oral antibiotics, or even birth control pills if the cause is hormonal imbalance.

Eczema

Eczema is another common skin condition wherein the skin gets inflamed, cracked, rough, patchy, and itchy. It also turns the skin red. Sometimes, blisters also occur.

There are different types and stages of eczema. It can be triggered by a variety of things such as food, pollen, or smoke.

Eczema can occur in younger children, but many of them outgrow their condition. However, there are also many cases wherein the patient has brought it into their adulthood.

Unfortunately, eczema has no cure. But, certain medications can help ease the discomfort it causes. Again, a doctor should check you first so they can recommend the best treatment based on your health, age, and the severity of your case.

The most common medications given to eczema patients are antibiotics, topical corticosteroids, antihistamines, systemic corticosteroids, and more.

Sunburns

If you frequently go out without UV protection or you stay too long under the sun, you’re likely to get a sunburn. The skin would turn red and is painful to the touch. Soon after, it will start peeling away, which could be both itchy and painful.

Sunburns can be easily avoided. Make sure you don’t stay too long in the sun, but if necessary, ensure you apply sunscreen. If you have to stay longer than two hours, make sure you reapply ample amount on any exposed skin.

You can take care of sunburns at home. Take a cool bath and use mild soap, then moisturize the area with oil-free and mild products.

Caring for your skin is pretty easy. You don’t even have to buy lots of skin products. But if you experience any skin problem, make sure you get the help of a doctor.
